Skills for Life
My Plan
By the end, you have your own written plan for your life — and the plan is yours to keep.
At a glance
- Pillar
- Skills for Life
- Sessions
- 2 sessions
- Session length
- About 75 to 90 minutes
- Who leads it
- New Steps facilitator
- Certificate
- New Steps Certificate — competence-based, signed off when the young person has shown the skill on a real task
Plus a graduation close. It flexes to three sessions where a cohort needs it.
What they leave with
- Their own written, dated plan — where they will live, work or learn, their supports, their emergency contacts, their money, their physical health and their mental health
- A graduation
How it runs
The capstone. A resident does not need every earlier module to do this one — the plan works with what they have, and a gap they have not reached yet becomes a live goal with their coach. The completed plan is the keepsake.
How it connects
Modules are built to stack. Where one has already taught a skill, the next one recalls it rather than teaching it again.
Is this a fit for someone you work with?
A caseworker reaches out, we book a tour, and we work out together whether New Steps is the right place. When a room is open, a referral can come together in about a week. When we are full, we will say so. New Steps is not an emergency placement service — we do not take same-day or overnight placements.
