Skills for Life

Legal Literacy & Justice Navigation

By the end, you'll know where to get free legal help, and what to do when a legal letter shows up. Knowing your way around the system is a skill — and it's yours.

Who leads it
A partner delivers the content; New Steps hosts it

New Steps Certificate — competence-based, signed off when the young person has shown the skill on a real task

Plus an optional pool of extra partner sessions that slot into the calendar as bookings land.

What they leave with

  • Their own map of where to get free legal help
  • A keep-forever card with their plan for when a legal letter arrives
  • Their own lines for who helps them

How it runs

A guest legal partner delivers the legal content. A New Steps facilitator hosts the container and runs the navigation wrap.

What this module is not

Navigation only. New Steps maps the doors and helps a young person walk through them; it does not give legal advice.

How it connects

Modules are built to stack. Where one has already taught a skill, the next one recalls it rather than teaching it again.

Is this a fit for someone you work with?

A caseworker reaches out, we book a tour, and we work out together whether New Steps is the right place. When a room is open, a referral can come together in about a week. When we are full, we will say so. New Steps is not an emergency placement service — we do not take same-day or overnight placements.
